Created from one of Michael Joseph’s original negatives from his celebrated Pool Ladies series, this unique cyanotype reinterprets a 1980s swimming pool photograph as a composition of remarkable poetic intensity.

The deep Prussian blue of the cyanotype transforms the water into an almost cosmic landscape where light, movement and matter merge. On the left, one swimmer floats serenely with her eyes closed, suspended in perfect stillness, while the second figure gradually dissolves into shimmering currents of light. Reflections become painterly brushstrokes, ripples replace outlines, and the photograph drifts towards abstraction.

The cyanotype process allows sunlight, chemistry and chance to enter into dialogue with the original negative. Each exposure reveals subtle tonal variations, textures and beautifully unpredictable imperfections, ensuring that no two prints can ever be the same.
