Created from one of Michael Joseph’s original negatives from his celebrated Pool Ladies series, this unique cyanotype reimagines a 1980s swimming pool scene as a work of remarkable poetic intensity.

Deep Prussian blues transform the water into an almost otherworldly space where light, reflections and movement merge into a single flowing surface. One swimmer floats peacefully with her eyes closed, while the second figure gradually dissolves into the shimmering currents until she becomes almost ghostlike. Ripples and reflected light erase the conventional contours of the photograph, allowing the image to drift towards something that feels as much like a painting as a memory.

The historic cyanotype process invites sunlight, chemistry and chance to enter into dialogue with the original negative. Every exposure reveals subtle tonal variations, rich textures and beautifully unpredictable imperfections that can never be repeated, ensuring that each print is entirely one of a kind.
