A pretty amazingly well composed group scene, taken for Whitbread, but not used as they considered it too risqué, as it was a student party, and the fear was that it might be misinterpreted (ie students and drinking rather than studying, perhaps avoid …)
The photographer created this one-off black and white darkroom print and it is possible that he was upset when he learnt that the picture was not to be used, or he might have stuck it on a wall with sellotape, hence the small tear on the left.
The tear is part of the picture’s history and a mount can easily be cut to conceal the left extremityy of the image. No mount included.
