A hypnotic moment suspended in liquid symmetry, Swimming Opposite (Violet) captures two mirrored figures drifting in weightless stillness. Eyes closed, arms extended, their bodies float in quiet surrender as rippling light fractures across skin and surface.
The violet tonal wash transforms water into a sensual, dreamlike field — deep, immersive, and luminous. Reflections echo and dissolve the figures, blurring the boundary between body and current. Strength softens into fluidity; repetition becomes rhythm.
There is an intimate serenity in the composition — a shared breath between mirrored forms. The cool sensuality of exposed skin beneath shifting light is heightened by the saturated palette, creating an atmosphere that feels both contemplative and quietly charged.
Created during Michael Joseph’s exploration of symmetry and the sculptural potential of water, this work elevates an aquatic gesture into poetic abstraction. The mirrored construction reinforces balance and duality, inviting reflection on motion, stillness, and connection.
Printed on aluminium, the violet tones gain exceptional depth and clarity, enhancing contrast while preserving the softness of ripple and reflection. The smooth surface gives the piece a contemporary presence while honouring its original atmosphere.
A refined and collectible work, presented in a small-format edition.
